Appliqué refers to a needlework technique in which patterns or representational scenes are created by the attachment of smaller pieces of fabric to a larger piece of contrasting color or texture. Good textiles for appliqué are durable and don't easily fray, like felt and leather.
Applied pieces may or may not have their edges folded under, and are attached beither with an adhesive, or most commonly with topstitching.
Reverse Applique is a little different in that 2 pieces of fabric are sandwiched over the batting and after stitching the top lay is cut away to reveal the fabric underneath.
